Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Soldiers At Camp by John Augustus Atkinson was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 200.00 – 400.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 107.55 (€ 96.63). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Augustus Atkinson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Prince Regent accompanied by the Dukes of Wellington and York at the opening of Waterloo Bridge on 18th June 1817, on the anniversary of the battle in April this year with an auction result of GBP 3,570.00 (€ 4,068.64).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Soldiers At Camp von John Augustus Atkinson im April 2004 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 200,00 – 400,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 107,55 (€ 96,63) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Augustus Atkinson erzielen.
