Auction result misses estimated price range
In March 2011 a collector was able to acquire the work A merchantman in the Channel off Newhaven, Sussex by John Callow for GBP 225.00 (€ 254.59). This price was achieved in the auction Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Callow achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shipping At Anchor Off The Coast in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 13,200.00 (€ 19,590.45).
