Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three Scenes From Les Eumenides: Acts I, 2 And 4 by John Flaxman was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,560.00 (€ 6,490.94). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Flaxman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Angels Rescuing A Soul From The Ranks of The Dead, which sold at auction in June 2006 for GBP 14,400.00 (€ 20,836.56).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Three Scenes From Les Eumenides: Acts I, 2 And 4 von John Flaxman im Oktober 2020 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 7.560,00 (€ 6.490,94) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von John Flaxman mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Angels Rescuing A Soul From The Ranks of The Dead beobachtet, die im Juni 2006 für GBP 14.400,00 (€ 20.836,56) versteigert wurde.
