Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Hoppner could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2017 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale auction, the work The Bowden Children changed hands for USD 23,750.00 (€ 22,002.96) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Hoppner have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Henrietta Maria Vernon Atherton, 2nd Lady Lilford (d. 1820), of Atherton Hall, Leigh, with her two children in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 81,900.00 (€ 96,044.73).
