This price was achieved in the auction THE DORIS DUKE COLLECTION at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 500.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Melville Kelly - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Kaonohi, c. 1920, which sold at auction in August this year for USD 5,760.00 (€ 5,314.14).
