In October 2020 Bonhams in London held the auction Orientalist Art, which included the work Jerusalem from Bethany by Joseph Austin Benwell. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,687.50 (€ 11,867.56), 34% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Austin Benwell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Caravan Passing The Statues of Memnon In The Plain of Goorna At Thebes, which sold at auction in April 2006 for USD 31,200.00 (€ 24,714.83).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 34 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2020 führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Orientalist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Jerusalem from Bethany von Joseph Austin Benwell zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 10.687,50 (€ 11.867,56) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Joseph Austin Benwell mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Caravan Passing The Statues of Memnon In The Plain of Goorna At Thebes beobachtet, die im April 2006 für USD 31.200,00 (€ 24.714,83) versteigert wurde.
