This artwork by Karel van Mander III achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May last year. In the Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a bearded man with a turban sold for USD 35,280.00 (€ 32,876.71) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Karel van Mander III achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Allegory of taste: a young man drinking from a silver tankard in July 2004 with an auction result of GBP 218,050.00 (€ 329,521.54).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 76 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Karel van Mander III erzielte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Master Paintings wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a bearded man with a turban für USD 35.280,00 (€ 32.876,71) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 20.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Karel van Mander III erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit An Allegory of taste: a young man drinking from a silver tankard im Juli 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 218.050,00 (€ 329.521,54).
