Born in Guangzhou, Lampo Leong studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. He completed his doctoral studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and currently serves as Professor of Art at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the United States.
In his artist statement, Leong says, “One of the most pervasive and enduring motifs for artistic creativity must surely be the desire to express a sense of awe and majesty evoked by the overwhelming power of nature.” His Emanation series features geometric structures painted in traditional Chinese ink brushstrokes, creating a sublime and mysterious composition. Reminding viewers of the cosmic space, the series expresses a dynamic life force that emanates from the centre of the painting, like

This artwork by Lampo Leong achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in May 2016. In the Chinese Contemporary Ink auction, the work Emanation 21 sold for HKD 75,000.00 (€ 8,668.61) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 40,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Lampo Leong; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Supernova 1 sold at auction in November 2017 with the realized price of HKD 93,750.00 (€ 10,093.61).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Lampo Leong erzielte im Mai 2016 bei Christies in Hong Kong einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Chinese Contemporary Ink wurde die Arbeit Emanation 21 für HKD 75.000,00 (€ 8.668,61) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 40.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Lampo Leong; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Supernova 1 im November 2017 mit dem Hammerpreis von HKD 93.750,00 (€ 10.093,61).
