Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work Race meeting at Royal Ascot by Leslie Saalburg was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2010, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,189.99). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Leslie Saalburg; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Huntstmen gathering for a winter's morning meet (illustrated); Picnic lunch at a point-to-point; and Rolls Royce on Gold Cup Day, Ascot sold at auction in December 2010 with the realized price of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,769.99).
