Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2003 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Portrait of a boy, seated full-length, in a blue dress and feathered hat, holding a hoop, in a landscape by Margaret Sarah Carpenter. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 4,497.47) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Margaret Sarah Carpenter have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of a young girl, thought to be Henrietta Carpenter, bust length, in oriental dress in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 32,450.00 (€ 39,017.47).
