Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2017 Christies in New York held the auction Courageous Spirits: Outsider and Vernacular Art, which included the work I Awe I Awe, 1988 by Mary Tillman Smith. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 1,500.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 1,875.00 (€ 1,737.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mary Tillman Smith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (Yellow Figure), which sold at auction in February last year for USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,568.42).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Januar 2017 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Courageous Spirits: Outsider and Vernacular Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit I Awe I Awe, 1988 von Mary Tillman Smith zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.500,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 1.875,00 (€ 1.737,08) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Mary Tillman Smith mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Untitled (Yellow Figure) beobachtet, die im Februar letzten Jahres für USD 6.250,00 (€ 5.568,42) versteigert wurde.
