Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Engagement between the H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake, 1st June 1813 by Montague Dawson was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 126,000.00 (€ 112,379.59). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Montague Dawson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The action between H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake,1st June 1813, which sold at auction in February 2006 for USD 486,400.00 (€ 407,882.60).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Engagement between the H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake, 1st June 1813 von Montague Dawson im Januar letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 126.000,00 (€ 112.379,59) den Besitzer.
