Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Rembrandt van Rijn achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in October this year. In the Masterpieces from the Collection of Sam Josefowitz: A Lifetime of Discovery and Scholarship auction, the work Self-Portrait etching at a Window sold for GBP 277,200.00 (€ 318,302.61) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 120,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rembrandt van Rijn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz. Sylvius, half-length, in black costume and a cap and collar in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 19,803,750.00 (€ 31,547,196.55).
In der Auktion Masterpieces from the Collection of Sam Josefowitz: A Lifetime of Discovery and Scholarship wurde die Arbeit Self-Portrait etching at a Window für GBP 277.200,00 (€ 318.302,61) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 120.000,00. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz.
