Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Castel dell'Ovo on a promontory above the Bay of Naples by Robert Henry Cheney was sold in the WATERCOLOURS OF THE GRAND TOUR FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION auction at Christies in London in October 2005. The price achieved of GBP 1,920.00 (€ 2,831.42) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Henry Cheney - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A panoramic view of the Farnesina and the city of Rome, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,469.38).
