Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2014 a collector was able to acquire the work Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Builder of the Steamship “Leviathan (The Great Eastern),” Standing Against the Launching Chains by Robert Howlett for USD 2,750.00 (€ 2,272.54). This price was achieved in the auction Photographs from the Art Institute of Chicago - Online Only at Phillips in an online auction and was even below the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Howlett achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Isambard Kingdom Brunel By The Launching Chains Of The Great Eastern, 1857 in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 34,100.00 (€ 47,748.82).
