Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October 2004 Christies in New York held the auction PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE COLLECTION OF SIR ELTON JOHN, which included the work Calla Lily, 1987 by Robert Mapplethorpe. Here, the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 53,775.00 (€ 42,189.71). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Mapplethorpe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait in October 2017 with an auction result of GBP 548,750.00 (€ 625,682.41).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Oktober 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE COLLECTION OF SIR ELTON JOHN durch, in der auch die Arbeit Calla Lily, 1987 von Robert Mapplethorpe zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 50.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 53.775,00 (€ 42.189,71) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Robert Mapplethorpe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Self-Portrait im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 548.750,00 (€ 625.682,41).
