ROBERT REMSEN VICKREY (AMERICAN, 1926-2011) Eight Balloons signed 'Robert Vickrey' (lower right) egg tempera and gesso on panel 22 1 ⁄ 4 x 27 1 ⁄ 2 in. (56.5 x 69.9 cm.) Executed in 1995.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In April this year Christies in New York held the auction The Collector: New York, which included the work Eight Balloons by Robert Vickrey. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,080.00 (€ 9,130.43) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Vickrey - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Green Thought, which sold at auction in May 2021 for USD 35,312.50 (€ 28,958.91).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im April diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion The Collector: New York durch, in der auch die Arbeit Eight Balloons von Robert Vickrey zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 10.080,00 (€ 9.130,43) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Robert Vickrey mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Green Thought beobachtet, die im Mai 2021 für USD 35.312,50 (€ 28.958,91) versteigert wurde.
