Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Marilyn Monroe, for Look, 1957; and Marilyn Monroe wearing a low-cut dress, c. 1960 by Sam Shaw was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000 – 5,000, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,500 (€ 1,185). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sam Shaw achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work in September 2017 with an auction result of GBP 10,625 (€ 12,054).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Marilyn Monroe, for Look, 1957; and Marilyn Monroe wearing a low-cut dress, c. 1960 von Sam Shaw im Februar 2009 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000 – 5.000 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.500 (€ 1.185) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Sam Shaw erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit im September 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 10.625 (€ 12.054).
