Description
Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-), a woodblock print
in sumi and colour depicting an owl perched on a pine branch -- 14¾in. x 9¾in. (37.5cms x 24.7cms), dated 1957, pencil numbered 140/200, one seal; a further print of four geese -- 143/8in. x 9½in. (36.5cms x 24cms), pencil signed to lower margin, dated 1958, sealed; and two further modern prints depicting scenes of provincial interiors -- 15¼in. x 9in. (38.6cms x 22.8cms), sealed.

Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work a woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 400.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 352.50 (€ 558.76). Admittedly, works by Shiro Kasamatsu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Snow At The Stone Garden (Yuki No Ishiniwa) in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 4,750.00 (€ 5,577.66).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit a woodblock print von Shiro Kasamatsu im Juni 2000 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 400,00 – 500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 352,50 (€ 558,76) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Shiro Kasamatsu auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Snow At The Stone Garden (Yuki No Ishiniwa) im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.750,00 (€ 5.577,66).
