This artwork by Thomas Lucop achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2001. In the BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL PICTURES auction, the work A moonlit view of shipping on calm waters sold for GBP 1,997.50 (€ 3,129.60) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Lucop; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Light airs at dusk sold at auction in May 2004 with the realized price of GBP 2,390.00 (€ 3,585.88).
