Upper estimate price exceeded by 75 %.
This artwork by Utagawa Hiroshige achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2008. In the Japanese & Korean Art auction, the work Sumidagawa Suijin no mori Masaki (Masaki and the Suijin Grove by the Sumida River) Mama no momiji, Tekona no yashiro Tsugihashi (Maple trees at Mama with Tekona Shrine and Tsugihashi Bridge) Onmayagashi sold for USD 3,500.00 (€ 2,485.62) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Hiroshige achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) in September 2002 with an auction result of USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50).
In der Auktion Japanese & Korean Art wurde die Arbeit Sumidagawa Suijin no mori Masaki (Masaki and the Suijin Grove by the Sumida River) Mama no momiji, Tekona no yashiro Tsugihashi (Maple trees at Mama with Tekona Shrine and Tsugihashi Bridge) Onmayagashi für USD 3.500,00 (€ 2.485,62) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 2.000,00.
