Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Afternoon at the waterfall by William Pitt was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 750.00 (€ 930.02) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Pitt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Near Stoke Gabriel on the Dart, Devon; and Cottage at Hooe, near Plymouth in September 2000 with an auction result of GBP 8,225.00 (€ 13,762.94).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Afternoon at the waterfall von William Pitt kam im August 2008 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 700,00 – 1.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 750,00 (€ 930,02) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Pitt erzielen.
