This artwork by Barbara Kruger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November 2011. In the Evening Sale of Works from the Peter Norton Collection auction, the work Untitled (When I hear the word culture I take out my checkbook) sold for USD 902,500.00 (€ 670,854.08) - well above the upper estimate of USD 350,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Barbara Kruger; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Untitled (Your Manias Become Science) sold at auction in November 2021 with the realized price of USD 1,170,000.00 (€ 1,036,590.77).
