The work Sheltering pilgrims (one of the Seven Acts of Mercy), 1640's by Cornelis de Wael was worth EUR 30,000.00 to a buyer in October 2021. This price was achieved in the auction Furniture and Old Master Paintings, Silver, Clocks, Musical Instruments, Historia, Carpets and Textiles, Old Master Drawings and Prints at Il Ponte and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of EUR 8,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Cornelis de Wael; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Troops manoeuvring in an extensive landscape sold at auction in July 2004 with the realized price of GBP 33,460.00 (€ 50,565.42).
