Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Norfolk Cottage by Cornelius Varley was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,817.46). Admittedly, works by Cornelius Varley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hampstead Heath in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,775.37).
