Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Dead Zebra by Dana Schutz was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 945,000.00 (€ 880,626.22). Admittedly, works by Dana Schutz have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Elevator in December 2020 with an auction result of HKD 50,050,000.00 (€ 5,279,190.52).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Dead Zebra von Dana Schutz im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 945.000,00 (€ 880.626,22) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Dana Schutz auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Elevator im Dezember 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 50.050.000,00 (€ 5.279.190,52).
