This artwork by François Louis Thomas Francia achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2011. In the Maritime Art auction, the work A blustery day off the harbour at Calais sold for GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,715.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Admittedly, works by François Louis Thomas Francia have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Chasse-marée (fishing luggers) making sail, off Calais in January 2003 with an auction result of GBP 8,365.00 (€ 12,811.95).
