Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Penguins and seals at the ice edge, Commonwealth Bay, Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1913 by Frank Hurley was sold in the The Polar Sale including The Neil Silverman Collection auction at Christies in London in September 2002. It changed hands for a price of GBP 3,585.00 (€ 5,697.39) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Hurley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Photographs of Scenes and Incidents in connection with the happenings to the Weddell Sea Party 1914, 1915, 1916. in September 2006 with an auction result of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 177,025.30).
