This artwork by Frédéric Bazille achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2010. In the Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sale auction, the work L'Homme Au Cigare Or Portrait De Zacharie Astruc sold for USD 362,500.00 (€ 278,076.10) - well above the upper estimate of USD 180,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Frédéric Bazille; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait De Paul Verlaine À L'Âge De Vingt-Trois Ans sold at auction in May 2015 with the realized price of USD 610,000.00 (€ 554,848.10).
