Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Portrait of Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor (1685-1740), full-length by Georg Philipp Rugendas was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,273.73). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Georg Philipp Rugendas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A cavalry engagement, which sold at auction in April 2001 for GBP 2,937.50 (€ 4,735.62).
