Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by George Chinnery achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May this year. In the Three Private Collections: Belgravia, Berkshire and Guernsey auction, the work Bengal landscape with a soldier and a distant shrine sold for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,529.12) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Chinnery achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Reeves Macao Album, 1836-1837 in July 2006 with an auction result of GBP 332,800.00 (€ 487,180.19).
