This artwork by Georges Vantongerloo achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2012. In the Impressionist / Modern Evening Sale auction, the work Composition émanante de l'équation y=-ax2+bx+18 avec accord de l'orangé-vert-violet sold for GBP 623,650.00 (€ 744,654.63) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 250,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Georges Vantongerloo; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Composition émanante de l'équation y=-ax2+bx+18 avec accord de orangé, vert, violet sold at auction in February 2018 with the realized price of GBP 1,208,750.00 (€ 1,365,448.98).
