Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Quinces and medlars on a ledge by Jan Jansz. van de Velde was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 265,875.00 (€ 303,808.53) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Jansz. van de Velde - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Still Life With A Glass Of Beer, A Pipe, Tobacco And Other Requisites Of Smoking, which sold at auction in January 2009 for USD 842,500.00 (€ 657,997.50).
