Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Toopapao tupapau of a chief, with a priest making an offering to the Morai Huaheine (Fare), Tahiti by John Webber was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2018. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 19,496.55) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Webber achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A View In Nootka Sound in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 224,750.00 (€ 252,923.20).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 17.500,00 (€ 19.496,55) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Webber erzielen.
