Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2011 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Mary Thomas, second wife of Philip Bartholomew (d. 1775), three-quarter-length, in a pink dress with a lace collar and sleeves, seated in an interior, holding an open book in her left hand by John Wollaston for GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,303.69). This price was achieved in the auction Lyons Demesne Works of Art from The Collection ofThe Late Dr. Tony Ryan at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 Other works by John Wollaston have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in January 2006 by the work A Portrait of a Lady at USD 5,400.00 (€ 4,441.52).
