Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Matthew Wong achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2021. In the Contemporary Art Day Sale auction, the work The Recluse sold for HKD 5,499,000.00 (€ 588,754.11) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 2,000,000.00. Admittedly, works by Matthew Wong have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Night Watcher in May last year with an auction result of USD 5,897,150.00 (€ 5,495,433.79).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Matthew Wong erzielte im April 2021 bei Sothebys in Hong Kong einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Contemporary Art Day Sale wurde die Arbeit The Recluse für HKD 5.499.000,00 (€ 588.754,11) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 2.000.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Matthew Wong auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Night Watcher im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.897.150,00 (€ 5.495.433,79).
