Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Three stage designs, probably for the Royal Ballet production of Sleeping Beauty by Oliver Messel was sold in the Snowdon: A Life in Art and Objects auction at Christies in London in September 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 2,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,240.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Oliver Messel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Mrs William "Babe" Paley (1915-1978) in September 2020 with an auction result of GBP 23,750.00 (€ 26,188.24).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Three stage designs, probably for the Royal Ballet production of Sleeping Beauty von Oliver Messel wurde im September 2020 in der Auktion Snowdon: A Life in Art and Objects bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.125,00 (€ 1.240,50) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Oliver Messel erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Mrs William "Babe" Paley (1915-1978) im September 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 23.750,00 (€ 26.188,24).
