In September 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Bertram R. Firestone, which included the work Hacking On by Peter Howell. The »bidding war« ended at USD 5,670.00 (€ 4,838.71), 62% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Peter Howell; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A set of four polo scenes at a polo match at Cowdray Park: Going for the Ball, Taking a Backhander, Where is it gone? and Half-Time sold at auction in December 2005 with the realized price of USD 7,800.00 (€ 6,586.73).
