Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Skull Walking Cane by Robert Mapplethorpe was auctioned at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 8,960.00 (€ 8,214.15). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Mapplethorpe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait in October 2017 with an auction result of GBP 548,750.00 (€ 625,682.41).
