Despite a disappointment, a good price for Utagawa Toyoharu
When the work Ten beauties of Edo by Utagawa Toyoharu was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 19,120.00 (€ 15,554.83). Despite this disappointing result, Ten beauties of Edo is the most expensive artwork by Utagawa Toyoharu that we have observed at auction so far.
Trotz Enttäuschung ein guter Preis für Utagawa Toyoharu
Als die Arbeit Ten beauties of Edo von Utagawa Toyoharu im März 2004 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 19.120,00 (€ 15.554,83) den Besitzer. Trotz dieses enttäuschenden Ergebnisses ist Ten beauties of Edo das teuerste Kunstwerk von Utagawa Toyoharu, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
