Bridges to the subconscious

After the winter months, Galerie Brücke in Hamburg is presenting an art exhibition that accompanies the annual awakening of nature with expressive works of art: Spring Awakening features paintings by Marie-Luise Beyer, Christian Hahn, Heinrich Hohenberg, Ute Martens, Johannes Nawrath, Marlen Schulz and Annette Selle as well as ceramic works by Cornelia von Have. The exhibition is the second show at Galerie Brücke, which opened in December 2024. It was founded by Carolin Beyer and Natascha von Allwörden and offers space for concerts and readings in addition to art exhibitions. Spring Awakening opens on 28 March with a lecture by art historian Dr. Thomas Gädeke and runs until 1 May. The gallery is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 pm to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 12 noon to 3 pm.

The artworks of painter Annette Selle, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program, give the impression of a kind of suspended state. Some paintings are vaguely reminiscent of landscapes, but Selle's works are in fact independent pictorial spaces in which the manual painting processes are visible. They deal with seeing and depicting as a subjective, physical process instead of creating the illusion of an object, whereby the paintings invite viewers to explore their subconscious. The artist's paintings are not created according to a fixed plan, but in dialog with the works themselves, until a cohesive whole emerges. Selle has already presented her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her paintings can be found in private collections in Germany, France and the USA.
