Painting, photography, sculpture: the three artists Micky Focke, Christoph Michaelis and Chris Hinze, who are taking part in the exhibition Through the Eyes into the Soul, work in different media. The common denominator of their works is the visualization of the hidden. They invite us to look behind the obvious, to perceive the artworks instead of just seeing them and to be inspired by them to reflect on our identity, our assumptions and beliefs and the traces we leave behind. This special exhibition will run for two days only – on May 3 and 4 – in the studio of artist Micky Focke in Schwielowsee/Ferch.

In her work, Micky Focke combines atmospheric oil paintings with various materials from the throwaway society: packaging waste, plastic scraps, metal fragments – objects that are only produced for a specific purpose and are then considered worthless. Focke's paintings use reuse to open the way to increasingly relevant questions about our relationship with the world and ultimately with ourselves. Beauty and transience are central themes of the paintings, which serve as a mirror of our lives. Focke's pictures tell of responsibility, mindfulness and wonder, brought forth in a poetic visual language.

Contemplative photography: Christoph Michaelis' view of urban spaces focuses on what is quickly lost in these environments. Moods and memories, fleeting traces of light are captured permanently and call for stillness and deceleration. Many of Michaelis' works are printed on metal-coated Hahnemühle FineArt paper, which gives the photographs a special texture and a unique sheen.

Chris Hinze's sculptures have their origins in nature: the artist works with raw materials such as wood, stone and clay in a few carefully considered steps. In this way, he creates powerful sculptures that speak of the cycle of life, of change, of stillness and strength, and that appeal to the deepest core of our being.
