In the late 19th century, five painters moved to the suburbs of Paris to develop new painting techniques. The most famous of them: Vincent van Gogh. Beginning May 14, the Art Institute of Chicago presents rarely seen works by van Gogh in the context of his peers in Van Gogh and the Avant-Garde: The Modern Landscape.

Although the Hamburger Kunsthalle is not celebrating its 100th birthday, its most important sponsoring association is: Freunde der Kunsthalle e.V. was founded in 1923, and to mark the occasion, the museum will open the exhibition 1923: Faces of an Age on April 28, presenting some 60 works from the years around 1923.
