Playful explorations of architectural forms in a historic building: At Museum Haus Peters, located in a historic merchant's shop dating from 1820, artist Frauke Petersen primarily exhibits works of art that deal with the perception of architecture and question sight as a reliable sense. Petersen's works are based on architectural photographs, onto which she applies different colored sands to create flat reliefs that take on new forms depending on the incidence of light and the viewing angle, creating an illusion of depth. The artist transfers the natural dynamics of sand to man-made buildings, in which sand often remains invisible as a building material and is subordinated to rigid forms. From March 21 to June 7, a selection of her works will be on display in the exhibition Light-Pictures in Tetenbüll near St. Peter-Ording.

At the opening reception, students from the Nordseeschule St. Peter-Ording will show their short film Studio Visit with Frauke Petersen at 3 p.m., in which the artist provides insights into her work. In addition, Frauke Petersen will personally guide visitors through the exhibition on International Museum Day on May 15 at 3 p.m.

Petersen, who participates in the Art.Salon artist program, initially worked as a garden and landscape architect and has been a freelance artist since 1998. In her studio in St. Peter-Ording, located in the converted cowshed of her parents' house, she explores the numerous properties of sand. On her travels, she collects a wide variety of sands, which, with their strong red or black tones, clearly stand out from the colors we are familiar with. In 2017, Petersen was awarded the Rotary Club Eiderstedt's Art and Culture Prize for her work.Art.Salon
