The ALBERTINA in Vienna houses one of the world's largest collections of drawings, prints, and other artistic works on and from paper. The museum has now created an exhibition from its extensive collection that does justice to the diversity of the medium: in addition to classic drawings, it also includes old copperplate engravings for playing cards and large-format three-dimensional objects. Artworks from the 15th century to the present day are shown together, opening up the diverse world of paper. Visitors can look forward to famous works such as Rembrandt's Self-portrait with eyes wide open (1630) as well as works that have rarely been shown in public before. The Fascination of Paper. Rembrandt to Kiefer runs from December 11, 2025, to March 22, 2026.

The selection of artists featured in the exhibition also illustrates the breadth of the exhibition: Johanna Calle, Thomas Demand, Lucio Fontana, Angela Glajcar, Georg Hartmann, Anselm Kiefer, Birgit Knoechl, Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III), Adolf Loos, Rembrandt van Rijn, Titian, and Günther Uecker, as well as anonymous artists from the 15th to the 19th century. Today, the ALBERTINA collection comprises around 65,000 drawings and over a million prints from the late Gothic period to the present day.Art.Salon
