Surrealism of everyday life meets renewal of collective memory: Painters Maf Räderscheidt and Gaby Kutz are showing selected works in a duo exhibition in Kutz's studio. As different as their positions are, they share an intense engagement with socio-political issues. The artists have known and appreciated each other for many years. In 2012, Kutz took over Räderscheidt's studio in Bad Münstereifel. A planned joint exhibition was prevented in 2021 by a flood disaster. Gaby Kutz's studio was flooded and Maf Räderscheidt's entire body of work, including 600 oil paintings, was swept away and destroyed by the floods. Under the title This is the peak!, they are now realizing their project: The opening of this unusual juxtaposition will take place on October 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Bad Münstereifel, and the closing event with an artist talk will take place on November 2 from 3 to 6 p.m.

The works of both artists are political. Gaby Kutz's works preserve the memory of significant events and individuals. Well-known press photos that have been suppressed or forgotten due to the sheer volume of images are restored to their original power and significance through her artistic reworking. The painterly transformation of the images creates distance from the photographic basis, enabling a deeper reflection on the reach and political explosiveness of the original photo. Kutz's selection ranges from famous photographs from the 20th century to the present day.

While Gaby Kutz deals with the political actions of people, Maf Räderscheidt focuses on the effects of these activities, which have created a world that seems detached from reality. She lets bright colors flow into one another, just as dreams and reality blend together. Her images call on us to look beyond the visible and truly perceive the surreal that surrounds us, finding the path to reason and hope through emotions. This is the peak! now offers the special opportunity to experience the determined and energetic positions of both artists in exchange.
