This marks the premiere of his new work: hamburg minimal is the current project by Andreas Bromba, who has previously explored the unique character of cities such as Berlin, Munich, and New York in his series. Using a minimalist, clear visual language, Bromba traces the transformation of cities while simultaneously offering fresh perspectives on familiar buildings and sculptures—views that surprise, amaze, and reveal innovative structures. His approximately 20 interpretations of public space are now being presented at the VisuleX Gallery for Photography as part of the 11th Hamburg Architecture Summer 2026. The opening reception will take place on May 6 at 7 p.m. in the presence of the artist, following which the exhibition Andreas Bromba. hamburg minimal will run through May 30.

Rediscovering the city is also a central element of the exhibition concept: Visitors can guess the locations of the works—for which no clues are provided—and use a QR code to digitally pinpoint them via an interactive exhibition brochure.

Minimalist photographer and installation artist Andreas Bromba studied art education with a focus on photography in Frankfurt am Main and art history in Hamburg. His project The Small in the Large – Minimalism in Photography began in 2005 with berlin minimal. The city’s fragmentation in the 2000s inspired the artist to encourage a rediscovery of the city through artistic reduction to the essentials and to counteract this division. These works were created using analog photography and produced with PolaGraph 35mm film, which has since been discontinued. In 2020, Bromba continued the series with münchen minimal using digital photography (this series is not yet complete and the works have not yet been published), followed a year later by hamburg minimal.
