Auction result well in line with expectations

In December 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction The Fantasy World of Arthur Rackham: Rare Original Illustrations from the Collection of Shirley Carter Burden, which included the work Original illustration for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (The nightmare, with her whole ninefold) by Arthur Rackham. It changed hands for a price of GBP 27,720.00 (€ 33,064.15) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Arthur Rackham - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Andromeda, which sold at auction in September last year for GBP 88,500.00 (€ 100,721.56).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Im Dezember 2021 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion The Fantasy World of Arthur Rackham: Rare Original Illustrations from the Collection of Shirley Carter Burden durch, in der auch die Arbeit Original illustration for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (The nightmare, with her whole ninefold) von Arthur Rackham zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 27.720,00 (€ 33.064,15) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Arthur Rackham mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Andromeda beobachtet, die im September letzten Jahres für GBP 88.500,00 (€ 100.721,56) versteigert wurde.
