The »bidding war« ended at GBP 13,860.00 (€ 16,532.07), 39% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Arthur Rackham have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Andromeda in September last year with an auction result of GBP 88,500.00 (€ 100,721.56).

Die Arbeit Original illustration for The Vicar of Wakefield (That little melancholy air your papa was so fond of) von Arthur Rackham wurde im Dezember 2021 in der Auktion The Fantasy World of Arthur Rackham: Rare Original Illustrations from the Collection of Shirley Carter Burden bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 13.860,00 (€ 16.532,07) und damit 39% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Arthur Rackham auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Andromeda im September letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 88.500,00 (€ 100.721,56).
