Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work American jules Bastien-Lepage by Augustus Saint-Gaudens was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2015, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 18,750.00 (€ 17,752.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Augustus Saint-Gaudens achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Victory in May 2017 with an auction result of USD 2,047,500.00 (€ 1,822,267.71).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit American jules Bastien-Lepage von Augustus Saint-Gaudens im November 2015 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 18.750,00 (€ 17.752,32) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Augustus Saint-Gaudens erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Victory im Mai 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.047.500,00 (€ 1.822.267,71).
